Penn State’s Sean Clifford wins Green Bay Packers’ backup QB job as a rookie

Sean Clifford has solidified his place in the NFL for his rookie season.

Clifford will serve as the Green Bay Packers’ backup quarterback, head coach Matt LaFleur announced on Thursday afternoon.

“I think it’s safe to say Sean’s our No. 2 quarterback,” LaFleur told reporters.

Clifford will work behind Jordan Love, the 2020 first-round pick out of Utah State. Love is replacing franchise legend Aaron Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets in April.

Clifford was picked by the Packers a couple days after Rodgers was traded. The four-year starter at Penn State was the surprise selection of Day Three as Green Bay took him in the fifth round at No.
